A little over 320 miles from Columbus to the hotel room I’d reserved in Kawkawlin. (Caw-Caw-Lin? Who knows.)
They’d asked when I made the appointment what time I was arriving. When I called, I didn’t expect to get my bicycle back from the shop until 6:30PM. If I left directly from the bicycle shop, I wouldn’t arrive much before midnight. They didn’t seem to happy about that, but, it is what it is.
The lady who checked me was actually quite nice. It was obvious she’d been waiting on me. She had all the advance paperwork ready for me to sign. She just wanted to figuratively tuck me in bed so she could hang out with the Sandman herself.
The place was right at the bottom of Lake Huron. There wasn’t anything but boats out in the parking lot when I checked in:
I was a little surprised by the size of the room. Three beds. They weren’t the most comfortable things in the world, but they did the job. Price of the room? $48.
When you’re having to carry everything you need everywhere you go, you pare stuff down to the essentials.
